Walking

The University Club is a short walking distance from the city centre, main public transport options, as well as the popular local tourist attractions, and University buildings and Colleges - particularly those in the Science Area.

Train

We are a 20-minute walk from Oxford Train Station. Turn left onto the main road heading to the town centre. Walk up Hythe Bridge Street, George Street, Broad Street and Holywell Street (this is all in a straight line). Halfway down Holywell Street, turn left on to Mansfield Road. The University Club is on your right. Alternatively a taxi should cost £7 to £9.

Bus

The nearest local bus stops to the University Club are located at the junction of Queen’s Lane on the High Street; we are about a 10-minute walk from these stops. From these bus stops you can catch local buses to explore both the city and further afield across Oxfordshire, the Oxford Tube providing 24/7 coach services between Oxford and London, and regular airport services running to Heathrow and Gatwick airports. We are also about a 20 minute walk from the main bus station at Gloucester Green. Please visit the Oxford Bus Company and Stagecoach websites for local bus times, maps and more.

The University Club is also very close to the Oxford Sight Seeing bus stops, offering tours of the city.

For any visiting researchers and staff, we are also very close to the Science Transit Shuttle ST1 and ST2 bus stops offering journeys from the Science Area to Harwell Campus, and to Wytham and the JR Hospital.

Car and parking

If you are travelling by car, please note that the University Club does not have dedicated parking. There are disabled parking spaces and pay-and-display parking located outside of the University Club on Mansfield Road, however most of this is not suitable for long-term stays (more than 3 hours). Longer-term parking can be found on the side roads of Norham Gardens, which is a short walk across the University Parks.

Alternatively car parking is available at city-centre car parks. The nearest one is Oxford City Council’s Gloucester Green Car park, a 15 minute walk from the club. Please note, this carpark is cashless. Payment can be made by card at a ticket machine on arrival, or via the RingGo app. Once parked, you can also extend your parking session if needed without having to return to the vehicle. Please visit the Gloucester Green Car Park website for more information and pricing.

We also encourage our visitors to check the Oxford Zero Emission Zone map before you travel to check whether your route will take your through the chargeable zone. For more information on charges and how to register your vehicle, please visit the Oxford Zero Emission Zone webpages.
